PAPU ADMINISTRATIVE COUNCIL MEETING STARTS

Deputy Secretary General Ministry of Information, Communication and Information Technology Mr. Celestine Kakele has required the Technical Committees of the African Postal Union (PAPU) to deliberate and recommend the best solutions that will enable Postal Organizations in Africa to be productive, especially in delivering essential services to society and the development of African countries.

He said this during the official opening of the PAPU Administration Council held at the AICC International Conference Hall in Arusha. Mr. Kakele represented the Secretary General of the Ministry, Mr. Thursday Mohammed Abdullah.

The two-day committee meetings start from August 24-25, 2023, aim to discuss the best ways to develop the Postal Industry and prepare a report to be presented to the Administrative Council of the Union, where its recommendations will be presented for discussion and decision-making, this being part of the operational procedure of the African Postal Union.

Deputy Secretary General Mr. Kakele also stated that the development of technology currently going on in the world should be embraced, especially in developing the economy while focusing more on e-commerce services, whereby Tanzania through the Tanzania Post Corporation has already started.

The Chairman of the Administrative Council of the African Postal Union (PAPU), who is also the Director General of Post Madagascar, Mr. Richard Ranarison, has emphasized that these meetings should be held professionally to ensure that the objectives of promoting the postal sector in Africa are achieved.

 “Our Postal Organization is implementing a plan to steer us to a digital economy and e-commerce.”

“Technology does not make Postal services obsolete, but Technology makes Postal services more modern, faster, and cheaper.”
