Tanzania’s Minister Reaffirms Pivotal Role of the Post

The PAPU General Secretariat played host to a high-profile guest today, 17th February 2023, in the person of Tanzania’s Minister of Information, Communications and ICT, the Honourable Nape Moses Nnauye. In what was his maiden visit to the Union’s Headquarters since he assumed duty, he was accompanied by the Regional Commission for Arusha and the Director General of the Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority (TCRA).
Among the highlights of this working trip was a meeting with the General Secretariat staff, members of the PAPU-TCRA Joint Venture Team and leaders of public utility corporations in the Arusha Region, followed by a comprehensive tour of the ongoing PAPU House Project.
The Minister used the opportunity to reaffirm the Tanzania Government’s resolve to assist the Post in the country in particular and the continent as a whole in driving forward its transformation agenda, for the industry to continue playing its historical role as a pivotal partner of Government.
Taking a trip down memory lane, he noted that as the hub of the liberation movements during the struggle for international sovereignty, the Tanzanian authorities relied heavily on the Post as a facilitator of communications and logistics in prosecuting the liberation agenda. It is therefore natural for the Post to be recalibrated to play a similar central role in the next phase of the journey for the independent countries, namely socioeconomic development.
The visit ended with a press briefing including remarks by the Honourable Minister, the Regional Commissioner and the PAPU Secretary General.
