UPU Director General visits PAPU headquarters

Ambassador Bishar Hussein, Director General of the International Bureau of the Universal Postal Union (UPU), paid a working visit to the headquarters of the Pan African Postal Union (PAPU) in Arusha, Tanzania from 8th to 9th November 2021. Among the highlights of this trip was a working session between Ambassador Hussein and the PAPU Secretary General, during which both leaders explored ways and means of expanding and deepening the longstanding cooperation ties between the global Union and Africa’s continental Union, in light of the challenges and opportunities facing the postal industry in this era of digital revolution.

According to the PAPU Scribe, UPU-PAPU cooperation is of paramount importance in achieving a single postal territory in Africa, in the common and permanent quest for inclusive and sustainable socio-economic development of our beloved continent.

On his part, the UPU Director General expressed his great pride and satisfaction in the cooperation he has enjoyed with PAPU during his two terms at the helm of the International Bureau, particularly in promoting and facilitating the development of highly valuable policies, strategies and programmes.

The two leaders also agreed to strengthen the coordination and consultation channels between the two organizations.

This visit was also an opportunity for the UPU Director General to have a first-hand experience of construction work on the new PAPU Headquarters building christened PAPU House. He expressed satisfaction with the remarkable progress made and commended the Secretary General for his commitment in ensuring that this 17-storey futuristic facility is completed in good time, thereby giving a new facelift to the landscape and skyline of Arusha, while equipping PAPU with a befitting headquarters.
