Foundation Stone Laid for PAPU House Project
One of the highlights of the PAPU 40th Anniversary celebrations was undoubtedly the laying of the foundation stone for the Union’s headquarters building by the Minister of Works, Transport and Communications, Hon. Eng. Isaack Aloyce Kamlwelwe, personal representative of the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, H.E. Dr. John Pombe Joseph Magufuli.
The landmark event was heavily attended by representatives of PAPU Member States, the diplomatic corps and international organisations, among others. Prominent guests included Mr. Yaya Sangare (2nd Vice-Chair of the PAPU Plenipotentiary Conference and Minister of Communications of Mali), Ambassador Bishar Hussein (Director General of the Universal Postal Union), Cheikh Bedda (Director of Infrastructure and Energy at the Africain Union Commission).
Speaking during the ceremony, Mr. Younouss Djibrine (PAPU Secretary General) remarked that this was a historic day in the life of the Union, and thanked PAPU Member States for their unflinching support in actualizing the 17-storey project, which is expected to be the tallest building in Arusha, hosting offices for PAPU and TCRA (Tanzanian Communications Regulatory Authority), as well as business premises, conference halls, training centers, supermarkets, banking institutions, etc…
He pointed out that “Under the Joint Venture Agreement concluded between PAPU and TCRA (representing the Tanzanian Government), PAPU holds a 60% stake, while TCRA has 40%.”
Construction work is expected to last thirty (30) months.
