PAPU SECRETARY GENERAL CALLS FOR DIGITALISATION OF POSTAL OPERATIONS

The General Secretary of the Pan African Postal Union, Dr. Sifundo Chief Moyo, has urged African postal players and stakeholders to embrace digitalizing postal products and services to meet customer desires.

Dr. Moyo delivered his speech during the official opening of the Administrative and Technical Committee Meetings of the 42nd PAPU Ordinary Session of the Administrative Council, highlighting the postal sector’s pivotal role in Africa’s socio-economic landscape.

“The postal sector addresses critical issues like poverty alleviation, trade facilitation, and bridging the digital divide. Dr. Moyo said we should avoid prolonged deliberation and embrace technology swiftly to retain and grow their customer base.

Postal operators should be proactive about technology, leveraging it to enhance their services and remain competitive. In the face of declining market shares, shrinking business volumes, and aggressive competition from new postal operators, technology emerges as a double-edged sword, said Dr. Moyo.

This is the first-ever meeting of PAPU Member States in their building, symbolizing the continent’s solidarity and unity. The PAPU Tower is a testament to the union’s resilience and determination to overcome financial hurdles and deliver tangible progress.
