PAPU Hosts African Diplomatic Group

Honouring an invitation extended to them by the PAPU General Secretariat, the African Diplomatic Group comprising African Ambassadors and High Commissioners accredited to the United Republic of Tanzania paid a courtesy call at the Union’s Headquarters yesterday, Tuesday, 21st February 2023, on the sidelines of their retreat in Arusha. The delegation featured Diplomats from Algeria, Angola, Burundi, Kenya, Malawi, Morocco, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, Saharawi Republic, Somalia, South Sudan and Zimbabwe.
The visitors were welcomed by Dr. Sifundo Chief Moyo, Secretary General, and Ms Jessica Ssengooba, Assistant Secretary General, whereupon they were taken on a guided tour of the ongoing PAPU House Project where the delegation had a first-hand appreciation of the about-to-be-completed architectural jewel that will offer the Union a befitting Headquarters.
The tour was followed by a briefing at the Union’s current premises where the Secretary General presented a summary report on the project, an apprisal of PAPU’s continental mandate and vision which is anchored on the ongoing digital postal transformation agenda. On behalf of the visitors, the Deputy Dean of the Diplomatic Corps, Ambassador of Burundi, conveyed heartfelt appreciation to PAPU for the courtesy and pledged that the Diplomats will champion the postal cause with the authorities of their respective countries.
Overall, the visit was a resounding success as the Union’s mission is better understood by the diplomats who will hopefully embed the postal agenda into their ambassadorial mission.
